Dean Lewis: Summer Tour

^^

When: Until Sunday 23rd December
Where: Metro
Theatre

Dean Lewis announces his biggest headline shows to date off the back of huge audiences at Splendour in the Grass and Groovin the Moo this year. Dean and his band will play his new platinum single “Be Alright”, his massive debut song “Waves” and other songs from his EP “Same Kind of Different” plus new songs from his much anticipated forthcoming album. The single “Be Alright” signals a newfound conviction in Dean Lewis’ own storytelling and singing capabilities, something he says, he had to learn. “I think a lot of people are in their rooms writing songs, thinking it's not good enough or wondering why your voice doesn’t sound like everyone else's. But those things you think are weaknesses are actually your strengths. It’s what makes you unique. And after a bit of time, it’s the thing that gives you confidence.” Dean Lewis created a monumental buzz, launching with single ‘Waves’. Strongly championed by triple j, Spotify and Apple Music, ‘Waves’ was the second biggest Australian selling single of 2017. Adding to this incredible achievement, he has claimed three Gold plus selling singles from Same Kind of Different EP with Waves (3 x platinum) ‘Need You Now’ (Gold) and ‘Lose My Mind’ (Gold). The multi-platinum selling ‘Waves’ was nominated for 2 APRA Awards, 5 ARIA Awards as well as appearing on cult programs like Suits, Riverdale and Grey’s Anatomy. “Be Alright” is a testament to Dean Lewis’s knack for writing thoughtful, evocative no-frills pop songs, and signifies him as a bona fide star in the making.

Denzel Curry: Australia 2019 Tour

^^

When: Wednesday 6th February
Where: Max Watts

Returning to Australia this February atop the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2019 line-up, the ever-evolving rapper/songwriter DENZEL CURRY will perform two wild AF sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne this February – bringing the heat to what’s sure to be a hot summer music festival season. Tickets for all shows go on sale at 1pm Friday, November 2. My Live Nation members can secure tickets first during the exclusive pre-sale beginning 12pm Thursday, November 1 until 12pm Friday, November 2. Since his induction to the scene in 2011 with “King Remembered Underground Tape 1991 – 1995”, Denzel Curry has been creating some of the most dynamic hip-hop out there today. The SoundCloud generation rapper holds a talent for sharp lyricism and deeply personal storytelling – an iconoclast who takes great pleasure in telling you... he is the ultimate. On his latest record “Taboo” (TA1300), Denzel delivers a groundbreaking musical performance which sees him as a deadly lyricist and disciple of rap’s forefathers while simultaneously felling the gap between the older generation and the new generation of SoundCloud rappers that he helped birth in both sound and style. It’s a genre-hopping exercise in presenting his psyche, which takes a deeply honest and occasionally uncomfortable look into what makes him tick. The triple j featured “Album of the Week” includes the Twelve’In/Goldlink collaboration ‘13LACK 13ALLOONZ’ and the Billboard certified hit single ‘CLOUT COBAIN’ which peaked at #6 on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. With his music and movements, Denzel Curry commands respect in a way few are able to as he tells stories that resonate with both the old and new generation audiences. South Florida’s favourite son is sure to bring the heat down under for what’s easily set to be the biggest Laneway sideshows this summer. “Curry embodies the spirit of old-school hip hop with his raw magnetism and tantalizing wordplay while also appealing to the new generation.” – THE MUSIC.

Divinyls

^^

When: Friday 15th March
Where: Enmore Theatre

Long is the time since billboards across the country have lit up with the name Divinyls. A brand synonymous with raw, exciting, and above all uncompromising rock ‘n’ roll. A band that won the heart of a nation and then eventually the world. That time has come again as founding member, guitarist and co-songwriter Mark McEntee returns in 2019 with a talented new line-up hitting the road in March to honour the legacy and celebrate the indelible music created with the late, great Chrissy Amphlett. Led by the commanding vocal stylings of Amphlett and the whipsmart guitar vocabulary of McEntee, the Divinyls were a massive international success in the ‘80s-‘90s. Throughout the band’s history, Mark McEntee impressed as a world-class songwriter and guitarist, and a highly-acclaimed musical arranger in the studio. He co-wrote I Touch Myself with Billy Steinberg (Like A Virgin, True Colors, Eternal Flame), had his song, Science Fiction, included in APRA’s ‘75th Anniversary Best 30 Australian Songs Of All Time’ and penned The Pretenders 1999 hit, Human On The Inside, for Chrissie Hynde. The Divinyls are inductees in the ARIA and Victorian Music halls of fame as proof that the songs will live on forever. Feeling an organic need as a musician to perform the songs he co-wrote once again, McEntee will lead a major Divinyls tour in 2019. Joining him will be firebrand Baltimore-bred, LA-based singer/songwriter, Lauren Ruth Ward, original Blondie guitarist and Divinyls (1987-88) alumni, Frank Infante, and a cracking new Australian rhythm section to bring those hit tunes – from the heart and source - back to stages all over the world. It’s time. And it’s also, as McEntee says, a Divinyls Mission.
