Easy Fever

^^

When: Friday 15th December
Where: Enmore Theatre

Empire Touring is thrilled to bring you music from The Easybeats and Steve Wright, performed by Australia's rock n roll royalty: Chris Cheney, Phil Jamieson, Kram, Tex Perkins & Tim Rogers. This full blown musical experience is bound to resonate with music aficionados. The Easybeats left an undeniable mark on Australian music history by becoming the first local band to generate an international hit. They steered a new era of people away from mainstream music culture and earned them comparisons to the likes of The Beatles. In Australia, they were the reigning kings of rock & roll from the summer of 1965, assembling a string of eight Top Ten chart hits in a year and a half, including an EP that managed the unusual feat of making the singles chart. "Friday On My Mind" was a huge success, reaching number one in Australia, number six in Britain and making it into the top 20 in the US. They went on to record several more hits including "Sorry", "She's So Fine", "Wedding Ring", and "Good Times". After The Easybeats broke up in 1969, Stevie Wright released his debut solo album Hard Road in 1974, which spawned the three-part epic single "Evie", to a phenomenal response. After the single was released, it shot to No. 1 and remained in the charts for 26 weeks - it became the biggest Australian single of that particular year and the only pop song over six minutes to reach No 1. In 1979, Stevie Wright headlined The Concert of the Decade on the steps of Sydney Opera House, which featured a stellar line-up of acts. It was there that he performed Evie (complete) - which after all these years, is still referred to as a mind-blowing experience, by the thousands of adoring fans that were there on the day. In 2005, The Easybeats were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. To this day, their music continues to inspire and transcend new generations of musicians and music lovers, particularly, the all-star team of Aussie artists that will perform songs of The Easybeats in December this year.

Dizzee Rascal

^^

When: Wednesday 21st February
Where: Enmore Theatre

Mercury Prize winning pioneer of grime, Dizzee Rascal announces his eagerly awaited return to Australian shores for three headline shows in February. Presented by Astral People, Handsome Tours, Complex, FBi Radio & Primary Talent, the platinum chart-topping UK MC and producer will indulge fans with a special one-off show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre. Since the breaking reception of his self-produced debut single “I Luv U” at age sixteen, to the now considered grime classic Boy in da Corner, which won the Mercury Prize in 2003 – Dizzee Rascal has kept the UK garage and hip-hop scenes alight as a prolific rapper, collaborator and producer. Maintaining top position in his field across the world ever since, Rascal has won BET, Brit, NME and Urban Music Awards for a back catalogue that spans six full-length albums – many platinum selling – and includes number-one hits like “Dance wiv Me”, “Bassline Junkie” and “Bonkers”. Dizzee Rascal continues to reset the goalposts in grime and UK hip-hop, and on his sixth album, Raskit, he returns the compliment of Drake’s recent grime-flavoured mixtape. Raskit teams precision-tooled beats from an astute array of US producers (including Valentino Khan, Cardo and Paul Salva) with the sound of Britain’s most prestigious MC. The result is in a spiralling sub-bass vortex of introspective jeep-beats, which takes Jeremy Paxman (aka Dizzee) back to his roots, along with a hip-hop twist Jay-Z or E40 would be proud of. Off the back of performances at renowned UK and US festivals Glastonbury, Bestival and Afropunk, and his own arena-sized UK tour – Dizzee Rascal makes a hugely anticipated return to Australia in February. As a figurehead and pioneers who continue to play a role in shaping the evolution and story of grime for many of today’s up-and-coming artists, don’t miss the chance to see this celebrated British MC in peak form.

The band have had a crazy fortnight with an online video of Tim and Sam’s engagement clocking up over half a million views in just under a week, their BIGSOUND performance making waves and their latest single ‘Chasin’ being added to triple j rotation. Largely written, recorded and produced at home by frontman Tim Nelson, BATS is an intimate album inspired by experiences of self-doubt, growth, partying, coming out, learning the power of self-acceptance, self-belief and falling in love. While rooted in pop, the record is an unhindered sonic exploration with soul and R&B influences. Fans across the world have been drawn to the aura of honesty, vulnerability and sincerity as was evident on the album’s first single ‘O Lord’ and has continued with ‘Chasin’, a song written as Nelson came to grips with the feelings he had for bandmate Sam Netterfield. “In the middle of 2015 I went on a writing trip to LA and London,” explained Tim. “I enjoyed getting to write and record with some really talented people but I was sad for most of my time away. I missed Sam so much and I was just asking myself the whole time, why am I putting myself through this?! It made me realise that I was in love with him which was equal parts exciting and distressing. I’d hardly come out to myself and the idea of coming out to anyone else was terrifying.” BATS hits stores and online on September 22 with pre-orders available now, including the awesome limited edition ‘BATS splatter’ vinyl which would be nominated for ‘best vinyl art of the year’ should that award exist. Pre-order now here. Pre-orders will receive *FIVE* exclusive songs before release – ‘O Lord’, ‘Chasin’, ‘Jellybean’s Graduation Song’, and ‘All The Time’ upon pre-order and ‘Mountains Higher’.

Dua Lipa: The Self-Titled Tour

Already announced as special guest on the 24k Magic World Tour 2018 with BRUNO MARS, award winning, honey-voiced singer, DUA LIPA, is set to bring The Self-Titled Tour to Australia this November, hitting up Sydney and Melbourne. Tickets are on sale midday, Wednesday, November 1. My Live Nation members can secure tickets first during the exclusive pre-sale beginning at 10am Monday, October 30. Just shy of one billion Spotify streams, her singles have rapidly established her as a rising star – “Be the One" reached the Top Ten in a dozen European territories, "Hotter Than Hell" hit the Top Twenty in the UK, and “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” climbed into Billboard’s Top 25 in the US. All of this, mind you, before putting out her first album. With the release of her album Dua Lipa in June, its sixth single "New Rules", became Lipa's first number one in the UK.  In doing so, it also became the first song in almost two years by a female solo artist to reach number 1 in the UK, since "Hello" by Adele in 2015. The track is now a bona fide global smash and has just surpassed double platinum sales here in Australia. The album has revealed the full range of her ambitions - not just the dance-floor fire of her singles, but also her introspective side. “I’ve been describing it as ‘dark pop’ because people have only heard the pop moments, but there are some really dark, singer-songwriter parts that I’m excited about,” she says. At Glastonbury 2017, Dua pulled one of the biggest crowds of the event – performing to 150,000 festival goers, proving her popularity and dangerously exciting on stage presence. In Australia to support Bruno Mars on his 24K Magic World Tour, this is your opportunity to see Dua Lipa in a more intimate setting this March.

This will be the first time the band has toured Australia in their 35 year career! The band recently entered the famed Abbey Road Studio’s in London to record their 11th Studio album entitled “Walk The Earth”, with grammy award winning producer Dave Cobb. An album retaining the classic Europe melodies while pushing the boundaries of experimentation - recorded with equipment used by The Beatles and Pink Floyd at Abbey Road, “Walk The Earth” was released Worldwide on October 20th 2017. Featuring the classic lineup of Joey Tempest (Lead Vocals), John Norum (Guitar), Mic Michaeli (Keyboards), John Leven (Bass Guitar) and Ian Haugland (Drums), EUROPE have achieved total Worldwide sales in excess of 25 million, with the 1986 mega-hit “The Final Countdown” reaching No1 in 25 countries. The band’s live set will feature all their hits together with fan’s favorites from their studio albums. On touring Australia Joey Tempest adds “We are so excited to be touring Australia for the first time! It’s something we always wanted to do, but we just couldn’t make the schedules work before. But now…its going to happen and we can finally hook up with our friends down under!” Originally formed in 1979 in a small suburb on the outskirts of Stockholm, heavily influenced by British rock giants such as Thin Lizzy, UFO, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, the band begin to formulate their own sound. After winning a rock band competition in 1982, where first prize was a recording contract and with a name change to EUROPE, the World was soon at their feet. After the release of their first album, the self titled ‘Europe’ in 1983, the band signed with Sony Epic Records, New York and in 1984 their second album “Wings Of Tomorrow” set the path for future World wide success. With their aforementioned third release, “The Final Countdown”, the band had arrived. That album spent 70 weeks in the US Billboard top 100 and produced four top 40 singles. With continued touring and sell out concerts all over the World the band released two more albums, 1988’s “Out Of This World” and 1991’s “Prisoners In Paradise”, but after 10 years of solid recording and touring and the changing music scene that put “Classic Hard Rock” on the back burner the band decided it was time to take a break. After enjoying the 90's releasing solo albums and touring in other constellations, in 2004 the band met up again after realising their journey was no where near complete. The original line up reformed and released album number six “Start From The Dark” the same year. The band retained the old fans and at the same time regaining new ones. The coming years saw constant touring with headline festival appearances together with vast critical acclaim for their new album releases - “Secret Society” in 2006, “Last Look At Eden” in 2009 and “Bag Of Bones” in 2012. 2015 saw the release of “War Of Kings” which was later awarded a prestigious "Classic Rock” Award in the UK. This record put the band back at the top of their game. The album’s success saw the band tour the USA twice, the first time the band had been there in 10 years, together with other territories, some brand new and some back for the first time since the 80’s. 2016 saw the 30th Anniversary of The Final Countdown and to celebrate the band played a series of special SOLD OUT concerts around Europe where they played the album in it’s entirety for the first time ever, with the London Roundhouse concert being filmed and recorded for the DVD / Audio CD release, which hit the shops in July.

Celebrating the likes of The Mamas And The Papas, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Eagles, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, The Byrds, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. “Rick and I have been talking about doing something for close to two decades… it was a great opportunity to work together and celebrate great artists, some great songs and a certain time and genre. That period in music will never be repeated again.”
