Daniel Thompson's Johnny Cash Live

^^

When: Friday 13th September
Where: The Concourse, Chatswood

In 1969, off the back of the huge success of 1968’s At Folsom Prison album, Johnny Cash recorded the second of his legendary prison albums at California’s notorious maximum security prison, San Quentin. With the Folsom album kick starting a golden era of Cash’s career, At San Quentin continued his meteoric rise to his place as a legendary figure and icon of 20th century popular music. During the February 24 recording session, in typical Johnny Cash fashion, he got the already enthusiastic inmates on side with his song San Quentin which opens with the lyrics “San Quentin, you’ve been living hell to me” and he immediately replayed the song at the request of his cheering audience with both versions included on the original release of the At San Quentin album. Most notably the album included the worldwide smash hit single, A Boy Named Sue, which undeniably made Cash a global superstar and household name. Sue became Cash’s highest ever charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was only held out of the number one spot by the Rolling Stones ‘Honky Tonk Women’. 50 Years on, Daniel Thompson’s Johnny Cash Live hits the road celebrating this legendary album and the career of the Man in Black. A brand new show featuring more than 35 hits, Back to San Quentin – 50 Years On includes the great moments of the San Quentin album plus hits and favourites spanning Cash’s entire 50 year recording career. After 6 National tours and having performed more than 175 shows, Johnny Cash Live has become lauded as one of Australia’s premier tribute acts. With powerhouse backing band, The Tennessee Express and led by Australia’s own Man in Black, Daniel Thompson, Johnny Cash Live presents an unforgettable night paying tribute to one of music’s most iconic and influential figures. With more than 60,000 tickets sold Australia wide, don’t miss your chance to see what has audiences on their feet and coming back each year for more.

Client Liaison

^^

When: Saturday 26th October
Where: Enmore Theatre

Client Liaison break new ground and begin their new era with the electrifying single The Real Thing. Funk riffs that won’t quit, smiling synths and a triumphant chorus make this the Melbourne duo's most pop-skewed track to date. "We always thought this will be the encore of our live show, with everyone clapping their hands in the air," frontman Monte Morgan says of The Real Thing’s genesis. "It was so positive. To have positivity and danceability in a song and not be cheesy is really difficult. That's the trick. It's more pop than we've ever been. I mean, we started in the underground, doing everything ourselves, but as you progress you want to hit a wider appeal." Morgan and bandmate Harvey Miller have spent the three years since the release of their debut album Diplomatic Immunity spreading the word of Client Liaison here and abroad. The album reached No.15 at the ARIA chart and saw the pair take their acclaimed live show everywhere from The Falls to Groovin' the Moo to Splendour in the Grass with special guest Tina Arena, as well as sold out headline shows. Last August they ambitiously launched their own touring initiative - Expo Liaison - touring Australia in their own tent on a bill they curated that included Luke Million, Alice Ivy, No ZU, Total Giovanni and one John Farnham. They also designed and launched their own fashion brand, Client Liaison Deluxe Line at Sydney Fashion Week with pop-up events across the country. But right now, it's all about the music.

The Dandy Warhols: 25th Anniversary Shows

^^

When: Wednesday 6th November
Where: Enmore Theatre

Get Ready For A Massive Concussion of Rock and Roll with The Dandy Warhols as they’ve just announced they’ll be heading to Australia to perform a special run of shows to celebrate their 25th Year Anniversary. Born amidst the twilight years of the 90s grunge scene, The Dandy Warhols arose, and quickly stood a world apart from their contemporaries with their sonic concoction of psychedelia, garage rock and shoegaze - and an aptitude to never shy away from experimentation or getting a little weird. The band’s unfiltered creative streak earnt them a slew of hit singles like ‘Not if You Were The Last Junkie on Earth’, ‘Bohemian Like You’ and ‘We Used To Be Friends,’, alongside internationally renowned live performances and a duet with David Bowie. Earlier this year, the band returned in singularly freewheeling fashion, bubbling with off-kilter alt-pop sensibilities on their tenth album “Why You So Crazy”. A sound that’s been a quarter of a century in the making, their stylistic diversity is palpable with notes of psych-pop, high country-fried Americana, and gothic piano-propelled rumbas. These 25th Anniversary shows are going to be a defiant celebration of everything that’s brilliant about The Dandy Warhols! Grab your tickets early before these special shows sell out. “one of rock's wildest outfits.” – The Guardian.

Cowboy Junkies

An Evening with Cowboy Junkies to feature career-spanning repertoire from The Trinity Session to All That Reckoning. Canadian alt-country pioneers Cowboy Junkies will return to Australian and New Zealand for the first time in 20 years in May 2020. Anyone who has followed Cowboy Junkies’ three-decade-long journey knows the band has always remained true to its unique artistic vision. In 1988, they proved that there was an audience waiting for something quiet, beautiful and reflective. The Trinity Session was like a whisper that cut through the noise with its introspective, quiet intensity. Their new album, All That Reckoning, once again gently shakes the listener to wake up. It may be the most powerful album Cowboy Junkies have yet recorded. Formed in Toronto in 1985 with siblings Michael Timmins on guitar, Margo Timmins on vocals, Peter Timmins on drums, and Michael’s lifelong friend Alan Anton on bass, Cowboy Junkies has never had a break-up or taken a hiatus. They’ve never even endured a line-up change. The group has created a critically acclaimed body of work that has endeared them to an audience unwavering in its loyalty, and which is ripe for discovery by those who may have lost track along the way, or indeed who are new to the group’s charms. Their May 2020 tour of Australian and New Zealand will be one the undoubted highlights of the musical year.
