The Cashmere Cat

^^

When: Thursday 23rd November
Where: Metro Theatre

With Special Guest: Nina Las Vegas

Globally acclaimed, electronic all-star Cashmere Cat announces he’ll be visiting Australian shores this November, for a national headline tour presented by Astral People & Handsome Tours. Following his debut album 9, which was released earlier this year, the Grammy-nominated, genre-slicing artist will be bringing his eclectic, left-field live show to select capital cities in Australia. Hailing from Norway, the now LA-based Cashmere Cat otherwise known as Magnus August Høiberg, has been warping the boundaries of electronic music since emerging in 2012 with debut EP Mirror Maru. The EP’s combination of crunching synthesisers and off-kilter R&B quickly cemented Høiberg's sound. Lending Soundcloud remix treatment to the likes of Jeremih and 2 Chainz, Høiberg caught the attention of LA super-producer & mentor Benny Blanco. Together with Blanco, Høiberg went on to collaborate with numerous pop heavyweights including Tinashe, Charli XCX, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Wiz Khalifa and Ludacris. Høiberg has even lent his craft to Yeezy himself, co-producing “Wolves” from Kanye West's 2016 LP Life of Pablo. Høiberg humbly commenting, “I’m the biggest Kanye fan in the world, and when they premiered 'Wolves', it was one of the most exciting days of my life." Joining Cashmere Cat on tour is very special guest Nina Las Vegas. One of the most influential figures in Australian music, Vegas passionately dedicates herself to promoting and celebrating the sounds of underground electronic music from both Australia and abroad. Together with her own music, Vegas has released music for Swick, Air Max ‘97, Lewis Cancut and Hi Tom on her esteemed label NLV Records. She's also played sets at every major Australian festival including Splendour In The Grass, Stereosonic, Big Day Out, Parklife and Groovin The Moo, as well as Coachella, HARD and Holy Ship internationally.

Easy Fever

^^

When: Friday 15th December
Where: Enmore Theatre

Empire Touring is thrilled to bring you music from The Easybeats and Steve Wright, performed by Australia's rock n roll royalty: Chris Cheney, Phil Jamieson, Kram, Tex Perkins & Tim Rogers. This full blown musical experience is bound to resonate with music aficionados. The Easybeats left an undeniable mark on Australian music history by becoming the first local band to generate an international hit. They steered a new era of people away from mainstream music culture and earned them comparisons to the likes of The Beatles. In Australia, they were the reigning kings of rock & roll from the summer of 1965, assembling a string of eight Top Ten chart hits in a year and a half, including an EP that managed the unusual feat of making the singles chart. "Friday On My Mind" was a huge success, reaching number one in Australia, number six in Britain and making it into the top 20 in the US. They went on to record several more hits including "Sorry", "She's So Fine", "Wedding Ring", and "Good Times". After The Easybeats broke up in 1969, Stevie Wright released his debut solo album Hard Road in 1974, which spawned the three-part epic single "Evie", to a phenomenal response. After the single was released, it shot to No. 1 and remained in the charts for 26 weeks - it became the biggest Australian single of that particular year and the only pop song over six minutes to reach No 1. In 1979, Stevie Wright headlined The Concert of the Decade on the steps of Sydney Opera House, which featured a stellar line-up of acts. It was there that he performed Evie (complete) - which after all these years, is still referred to as a mind-blowing experience, by the thousands of adoring fans that were there on the day. In 2005, The Easybeats were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. To this day, their music continues to inspire and transcend new generations of musicians and music lovers, particularly, the all-star team of Aussie artists that will perform songs of The Easybeats in December this year.

The band have had a crazy fortnight with an online video of Tim and Sam’s engagement clocking up over half a million views in just under a week, their BIGSOUND performance making waves and their latest single ‘Chasin’ being added to triple j rotation. Largely written, recorded and produced at home by frontman Tim Nelson, BATS is an intimate album inspired by experiences of self-doubt, growth, partying, coming out, learning the power of self-acceptance, self-belief and falling in love. While rooted in pop, the record is an unhindered sonic exploration with soul and R&B influences. Fans across the world have been drawn to the aura of honesty, vulnerability and sincerity as was evident on the album’s first single ‘O Lord’ and has continued with ‘Chasin’, a song written as Nelson came to grips with the feelings he had for bandmate Sam Netterfield. “In the middle of 2015 I went on a writing trip to LA and London,” explained Tim. “I enjoyed getting to write and record with some really talented people but I was sad for most of my time away. I missed Sam so much and I was just asking myself the whole time, why am I putting myself through this?! It made me realise that I was in love with him which was equal parts exciting and distressing. I’d hardly come out to myself and the idea of coming out to anyone else was terrifying.” BATS hits stores and online on September 22 with pre-orders available now, including the awesome limited edition ‘BATS splatter’ vinyl which would be nominated for ‘best vinyl art of the year’ should that award exist.
