While tracks like ‘Naïve’ and ‘She Moves In Her Own Way’ helped establish a blueprint for British guitar pop that is still gaining devotees a decade later, these Brighton natives have never stopped developing. Jordan Rakei

^^

When: Friday 12th January
Where: Metro Theatre

Niche are very excited to announce the return of Brisbane raised, London based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Jordan Rakei to celeberate the release of his new album ‘Wallflower’. Newly signed to Ninja Tune, Jordan Rakei has battled his inner demons and written an inspirational, soul-stirring record in the process. At only 25, Jordan is a rare talent whose distinct take on soul captures a sonic and emotional awareness many artists spend their entire careers chasing. He writes with a maturity and flair that belies his years and new album “Wallflower” sees Jordan edging beyond the peripheries of the genial, often sun-flecked sound his fans have come to know him for. The easy swing that has been the backbone of his sound from the outset is ever present, harking back to teenage days spent in his bedroom with his beloved MPC trying to emulate 9th Wonder and Pete Rock. On “Wallflower” the tools and the process have evolved - the focus is on live instrumentation - but the groove and the cadence are unmistakable, framing soul and jazz in a truly vibrant oeuvre that simultaneously recalls his predecessors The Roots and peers The Internet, Nick Hakim and Hiatus Kaiyote.

With Special Guests: Deer Tick

Love Police are delighted to announce the return of two key players from the fertile US Americana scene, with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit and Deer Tick returning to Australia for a joint tour next March! In just ten action-packed years the career of Jason Isbell has transformed from being third-string singer-songwriter in legendary Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers to one of the most revered voices on the American circuit. Influenced by the soul music so intrinsically tied to his homeland of Northern Alabama as well as the more traditional country and folk staples, the songwriting of Jason Isbell is rich and powerful and disarmingly expressive. American Songwriter Magazine recently espoused, “There’s no better songwriter on the planet at the moment, no one operating with the same depth, eloquence or feeling”. Backed by his road-hardened band The 400 Unit, Isbell is one of the most potent acts on the road today, performing some of the finest songs penned in the last decade. His recent sixth solo album The Nashville Sound debuted at #4 on the US Billboard 200 chart, also topping the US Country, US Folk and US Rock charts (as did its 2015 predecessor Something More Than Free). Something More Than Free also scored Isbell twin Grammys for Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song (for single 24 Frames), as well as taking home Album Of The Year at the prestigious Americana Music Honors and Awards ceremony.
