The Whitlams

^^

When: Friday 14th June
Where: Metro
Theatre

Last Drinks At The Morrison Hotel Tour. The Whitlams are thrilled to announce that two of their favourite artists will join the shows in the capital cities next year - Bob Evans and Ella Hooper - in “Last Drinks At The Morrison Hotel Tour.” It’s 20 years since “Blow Up the Pokies” was released on the multi-platinum album “Love this City” and even though all the band can really do is shrug their shoulders that nothing has changed on the pokies front they can mark the passage of time and recall partying like it was 1999 by playing most of the album each night on this tour. Tim Freedman says “I have identified 12 songs and two bonus tracks that I still want to play from Love this City, so that will make up the core of show this May and June. The other half of the rambunctious long set will wander widely through the other five albums, stopping off for six minutes at Bob Dylan’s ‘Tangled up in Blue’ which it’s time to play again”. The band's career achievements include seven albums, three multi-Platinum and three Gold and three ARIA Awards, including the Best Group presented by Gough Whitlam in 1998. In 2011 Eternal Nightcap was voted 27th on the ABC's ‘My Favourite Album’ poll, and more recently earned the 17th spot in ‘Triple J¹s Hottest Australian Albums of All Time.

Winter Dance

^^

When: Saturday 22nd June
Where: UNSW Roundhouse

ASTRAL PEOPLE ANNOUNCE WINTER DANCE. Local heroes Astral People return with Winter Dance – a multi-stage party to keep you warm and moving in the cooler season. This will be their inaugural Winter Dance event, following the sold out success of the longstanding Summer Dance Series, and New Years Eve dance party Last Dance which debuted in 2018. And what a winter-warmer line up it is! Calling in the experts of cold weather climates, artists Omar S and K-HAND hail from Detroit, Michigan and Pender Street Steppers all the way from Vancouver, Canada. The Detroit legend Omar S is something of a mythological figure in dance music and is noted for his raw, stripped-back techno and production. The well established producer has curated a compelling sound that is completely his own, equally famed for his funky sets as his solo productions. Releases on his own FXHE Records and Theo Parrish's Sound Signature imprints have proved game changing within the industry, and, in light of his latest offering 1992, there's no doubt Omar-S will continue to shape the modern house landscape. Omar-S is supported by the Pender Street Steppers, who will bring their breezy, hazy house music to build the heat. When they are behind the turntables, the Steppers are celebrated across the region for their ability to instantly imbibe an atmosphere of love, sensuality and freedom. And fellow Detroiter K-HAND, officially named "The First Lady of Detroit" by the city council for her work as a techno pioneer, a business woman and a multi-media artist, rounds out the international cold climate crew. They will be joined by local legends Roland Tings, who has just released his new track 'Hiding in the Bushes', likeable madman Ben Fester, genre travelling Lex Deluxe and disco beat loving Maia Bilyk. We're celebrating her music. She obviously had a really unique voice and I use her vocal stylings, but no one can be Amy Winehouse. So more than anything I think it’s about playing the music well and bringing it to life. And I really believe we've done that”. (Mia Karter (Amy) – The Winehouse Experience). “Most beautiful experience I have had since we lost her. Brought me to my feet and my eyes to tears. It was wonderful”.
